Dr. Chandrasekar, a Padma Shri Awardee, is an internationally renowned Interventional Gastroenterologist and the Founder & Chairman of MedIndia Hospitals, Chennai.

He has been honoured with the Honorary Distinguished Professorship of The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and as a nominated Member of the State Advisory Board on Disability, Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled, Government of Tamil Nadu.

He had served as the Hon. National President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (2016-17) and as an International Committee Member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (2017-21).

He has published several innovative techniques in G.I. Endoscopy in peer reviewed journals. He has trained over 750 doctors in Advanced G.I. Endoscopy both from India and abroad and now they are the opinion leaders in their respective countries.

From his collection of over 23,500 complex Therapeutic Endoscopy procedures performed over 3 decades, he created a set of 14 Teaching CD ROMs in GI Endoscopy, first of its kind in India and distributed the same to Medical Colleges all over India.

As an invited Expert Medical faculty for National and International conferences and Live Workshops, he has delivered 40 prestigious Orations and over 520 invitational lectures and as a demonstrating faculty in 80 Live Endoscopy Workshops.

Earlier, with a brilliant academic career, he was adjudged as the Best Outgoing Student of Madurai Medical College securing 14 Gold Medals. He received his MD (Internal Medicine) and DM (Gastroenterology) from the prestigious PGIMER (Chandigarh). After his stint as a teaching faculty at Madras Medical College, he established a New Department of Medical Gastroenterology at Coimbatore Medical College.

Then he founded MedIndia Hospitals (Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Centre) at Coimbatore in 1996, then at Chennai in 2001. MedIndia Hospitals, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, continues to serve as a training, teaching and research institution in Gastroenterology & G.I. Endoscopy.

He established MedIndia Charitable Trust in 2006. The trust through 38 unique projects, has organized 85 Free camps exclusively for the visual and hearing impaired and physically challenged school students benefitting over 31,500 children, with over 12,000 beneficiaries under follow up, He initiated several innovative medical relief projects for the cause of common man.

He has received several International, National and State awards and recognitions, for his overall contributions.

A Young man, a first in academia right from schooling, joins Medicine in 1973, on the choice of his humble family of no doctors in the lineage. Navigating an uncharted ship of Medicine, he finds a compass in teachers for guidance, seniors for reference and juniors to teach. He gets selected as the best student at Madurai Medical College. The fire in the belly ignores his early success. He gets into the best place, PGI, Chandigarh, for Gastroenterology Fellowship.

Winning an international Medi-Quiz prize of advanced Endoscopy training in Europe and USA, he brings the expertise to India. Now, where to settle, USA or Europe? His assignment as a goodwill ambassador to USA, by Rotary International, kindles his patriotic instinct to settle in INDIA.

He joins Tamil Nadu Medical Service, serving poor and mentoring students for a decade. Then changing profile, he starts MedIndia hospitals, an advanced centre in Chennai, bringing latest technologies to develop this nascent speciality.

His motto, give back to society inspires him to initiate an Academy. He publishes new techniques and organizes international conferences, training aspirants.

His mantra is INNOVATE and RENOVATE. Founding a Trust, he launches several unique philanthropic projects. He receives Padma Shri in 2016 and global awards

With Padma Shri, his Godspeed, assuming more responsibility, launches several, first of their kind, projects, in India, for public and disabled, like Digital Health Card, COVID Hygiene APP, Braille on Traffic Rules, and Liver Doorbell, ConsultDocNow weblinks, short films on deaddiction, Environmental Restoration, BLIND Empowerment etc. He models pilot projects with his resources and submits to Govt. for mass implementation.
